Charlie Murphy, 'Chappelle's Show' Star Passed at 57 After Leukemia Battle

Charlie Murphy, the beloved comedian, writer and older brother of Eddie Murphy, has died after a battle with leukemia. Murphy was 57 years old. The first time I noticed Charlie Murphy was on the movie “CB4” as Gusto, at the time I had know idea that he was Eddie Murphy’s older brother.

Murphy’s most celebrated roll was Brotha Darkness on the “Chappelle Show”. The very popular Rick James skit took Charlie Murphy’s career to new heights and mostly out his brother Eddie Murphy’s shadow. Murphy’s true Hollywood stories of the 80’s when he and brother Eddie Murphy hung out with the great Rick James and Prince was 2 of the most popular episodes on the “Chappelle Show”.

Murphy’s credits also included the movies Harlem Nights, Roll Bounce, The Perfect Holiday, Paper Soldiers, Meet the Blacks, The Players Club, Vampire In Brooklyn as well as many other movies and television shows.

I was blessed to see Charlie Murphy some years ago at the comedy improv. Rest in Peace Charlie Murphy.
