ETS “Empowerment Through Sports”
Black Entrepreneur Spotlight Series
We would greatly appreciate it if you could tell us a little about your company.
Empowerment Through Sports is a non-profit organization that is structured around the binding principles of faith, family, and community. We provide mentorship, tutoring, sports recreation leagues/training, and community service projects.
What was your child hood aspirations?
My childhood inspirations were primarily my two older brothers Darwin and Trenton (T.K) Russell.
Can you give our readers a quick answer on business advice ?
I would advise anyone getting into business to ensure that their business has a firm infrastructure (team). A strong team can withstand the test of time and its trials.
There are always curves, corners, and straights that encompass the “business journey”. It’s important to navigate those coordinates with people that you can trust and lean on all while continually fueling and building the mission of the organization.
What was your toughest challenge?
. My toughest challenge is found in severing the business tie from those who deviate away from our mission statement. When community partners volunteer their time, it’s often viewed as one of the most selfless offerings.
We never want to lose people, but it will end up totally discombobulating your organization if it’s not “nipped” immediately. Subsequent to this challenge, the area of finding quality volunteers is the main challenge for me.
